The temporary pavilions that will house the food, beverage and retail program are conceived of upcycled by-products: used containers and plastic food boxes. The containers will accommodate the part of the program that needs protection from the natural elements such as kitchens, storage, bathrooms, counters…
The plastic food boxes will be stacked to create highly social interactive spaces as they provide an area to sit, rest, contemplate, talk, climb, play… These boxes can also be used as plant pots to shower the social topography with green.
The materials for the pavilions accentuate the impermanence of the temporary installations but at the same time provide a bright and joyful addition to the landscape that is in line with the sustainable vision of the University of Queensland.
